About Sunnyside
History
What started in a garage has grown into a team of 17 executing complex millwork for large-scale commercial and residential projects.
Sunnyside was founded by David and Amber Dalholt in 2016. David was working full-time for a general contractor, putting in 40 hours during the day and another 40 hours at night in the shop. What started as a second job was simple. We needed to pay for diapers. So he started building. Tables, cutting boards, anything we could sell.
But the work didn’t start there.
David comes from three generations of construction workers. He began learning carpentry at a young age, spending time on job sites and in workshops, and took his first job at a hardware store at 14 years old. When Sunnyside began, he was working with his grandfather’s tools, carrying forward a foundation that had been built long before the business ever had a name.
Over the past decade, Sunnyside has grown, taking on complex architectural millwork for commercial and high-end residential spaces across North Carolina. David and his leadership team now lead the vision behind each project, while Amber leads marketing and creative direction, shaping how the work is experienced and shared.
The scale has changed, but the mindset hasn’t.
We still care about the details.
We still believe how something is built matters.
We work closely with general contractors, designers, and architects to bring projects from plans to reality, with a focus on clean execution, clear communication, and work that holds up over time.
The Workshop
The shop is the heart of Sunnyside.
It’s where ideas get tested, details get worked out, and where a group of skilled, slightly unconventional, highly committed people show up every day to do meaningful work.
We’ve built a culture that values craftsmanship, accountability, and camaraderie. There’s no room for ego here. Just a shared standard for doing things the right way and doing them well.
We take the time to learn the craft properly. We stay open to better, more efficient ways of doing things. We push each other. And we keep it human. The shop is full of personality, a little quirky at times, but grounded in respect for the work and for each other.
Because what we build is meant to last.
What We’re Building
Yes, we build millwork.
But more than that, we help shape spaces where people want to be.
Offices where teams gather.
Restaurants where people linger.
Homes where life happens.
And just as intentionally, we’re building a workshop where people want to belong. A place where the next generation of craftsmen can grow, where the work is fulfilling, and where the people standing next to you matter just as much as the project in front of you.
Nearly ten years in, we’re proud of how far we’ve come, from a garage and late nights to the work we’re doing today.
And we’re just getting started.
Here's to the next 10 years of intentional growth.
Be apart of our team.
If you’re disciplined, highly motivated, and have a foundation in woodworking, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for people who are passionate about the craft, adaptable in the work, and dependable to the core. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, take your work seriously, and know how to be part of a tight-knit, high-morale crew, you’ll fit right in. We care about the work, but just as much about the people doing it, which means leaving ego at the door and showing up for the team.
